Commemorated in Color
On bedtimes with small children
Another night Three children needing Comfort before rest. Fighting against urges to skip evening chaos and escape to stillness. Longingly my gaze peers past water bottles, tinctures, trash. Relinquishing my desires, My arms envelop an exhausted toddler. Twining fingers through soft locks of hair, whispering prayers. Rewarding bedtime fortitude, twilight's glow beckons my attention. Tucking the horizon into pastel comforters, hammocked between rowhome walls. Entreating my spirit to sit at the feet of the Artist. Ushering gentle respite, another day of motherhood commemorated in color. Asking of me, breathe and bear witness to what I am doing. Unveiling new masterpieces every evening: my children, the sunset, and me.
